John primarily works with the owners and capital partners of privately-held, middle-market companies in board, advisory and c-level roles.
Experience
John began his career in public accounting with KPMG and McGladrey, where he earned his CPA certificate. Following a brief hiatus to earn an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia, John re-entered professional life in management consulting with a focus in capital sourcing, mergers and acquisitions and strategic planning.
John’s ongoing interest in supporting the needs of privately-held organizations led to the formation of Warren Whitney & Sherwood, a firm that helped pioneer the benefits of fractional management staffing. Through WW&S, John brought his unique leadership style to well over 100 companies based or headquartered in the central Virginia area, typically in financial or leadership roles. Following an extensive assignment with a national entertainment agency, John joined that company as CEO leading the organization to record levels of growth and profitability.
With the founding of CExOGroup, John continues his commitment to providing top level leadership and managerial support to privately-held companies. As time permits, John also writes and speaks on leadership and managerial topics.
